Platform Choice

Our preferred platform for the development framework sections of the websites that we design is Java. These backend sections include inter alia your e-card, photo gallery and contact pages, as well as any content management services which you may be using.

Java is the leading Internet platform for enterprise development. This for good reason as Java is scalable, robust and performs well. It also has massive industry support from companies such as Sun, IBM, Hewlett Packard and BEA, who have based their software development plans around it. This is demonstrated by JBoss, Quirk's application server, which has experienced over 5 million product downloads and is officially supported by HP.

Furthermore, Java is also platform independent, which means that our solutions can be deployed on Linux, Windows and Solaris, as well as other UNIX platforms. However, we recommend and use Gentoo Linux internally for its superior security, robustness and versatility. Quirk's technicians use Gentoo, as security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users' machines is of utmost importance to us.
