Nigel Espi

Engineer & Surfer of Web and Waves

Nigel Espi

Nigel Espi joined the Create Team at the Cape Town QuirkStation as an Engineer in May 2011. Growing up, he idolised MacGyver (this seems to be a QuirkStar trend) and the local Rastafarian beach bum (don’t ask). All young Nigel wanted to grow up to be… was cool. After finishing up matric at Bishops, he finally accepted he was a nerd at heart and headed off to do a BSc Comp Sci Degree at UNISA to figure out how these computer thingies worked.

He was a co-founder of the affiliate marketing business, SA Finance Direct and got stuck into various projects during his time working at development house, Moonlight42. While living in London, Nigel also contracted at Credit Suisse First Boston and is currently involved in the "More To Life" programme.

An avid music fan and cello player; he’s been jamming with Leon Visser from the band, Hot Water (and we’re hoping to see a collaboration gig soon!). Not only does Nigel trawl the Web, he also spent 6 months travelling in South East Asia and loves to surf. He’s been described as a “boyjie” by his mates and takes pleasure in kicking back with a “gansta movie” (think Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), but he’s not all  hard-core – as exhibited by his penchant for classical music and his never-ending love for his two golden Labradors.
