Junior Web Developer & Tomboy
Nicole van der Westhuizen joined the ever-growing Cape Town QuirkStation as a Junior Web Developer in August 2010. Her childhood hero was (and still is) Spiderman and after dreaming of becoming a doctor, she set her heart on becoming a director or actor.
Following her ambition, Nic headed to the Waterfront Theatre School to study Drama until 2005. She then changed her sights from the stage to the (computer) screen and spent 3 years studying Web Design/Development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), Adobe CS3 and Flash AS3. Nic made the choice to go from acting to building websites ‘cause she’s an inquisitive being and after having picked up a book on HTML and CSS, she needed to know how it all worked! She also loves the appeal of creating something from nothing. Nicole was attracted to a life online due to the wealth of information at her fingertips and hopes to add some upbeat fun and some major geekiness to the QuirkStation.
Her ideal day off would involve tanning, chilling with mates, followed by an indulgent massage or manicure… but don’t be fooled, Nic is not your average gal – she loves to play sport, gets a kick out of watching horror flicks, is quick to detect a lie and is described by her mates as a Tomboy. She hates people who are inconsiderate and if she could change one thing in the world she would encourage kids to enjoy their childhood more – out with the tweeny boppers! Nic can’t live without Facebook, Penny Arcade, Splitreason, Web Designer Wall and iStock. She even has her own website, www.nicthecatburglar.com.
