Mari Basson

eMarketing Studling & Spice Girl

Mari Basson

Growing up, Mari Thea Basson dreamt of being a doctor as she spent hours jamming to the beats of her childhood heroes – the Spice Girls. “So tell me what choo want what you really really want!”

Affectionately known as Mella, Meraai, Kiekie or Beer, she still sees herself as a 12 year old, although she matriculated from DF Malan Hoërskool in 2006. Knowing all the cool kids were in advertising, she chose to study at the AAA School of Advertising. She graduated in 2008 with a Diploma in Copywriting and went on to work at AdMakers on the General Motors account, where she added funk and flavour to their adverts using big bold fonts, pretty pictures and clever lines.

She was attracted to a life online because she wanted to broaden her horizons and so she left her old life behind and joined the Internship Programme at the Cape Town QuirkStation in September 2009.

When not at home cuddling her scruffy dog, Horatio, or reading her prized Afrikaans poetry collection, she enjoys browsing around the likes of Mr Price, Chinese shops and second-hand stores. She is indecisive, can’t whistle and Extreme Home Makeover always makes her cry (she is not alone on this one). The girl with the million-dollar-smile seems to have the ability to find the hidden charm and beauty in everything.

She Facebooks and on the odd occasion, vents on FML and even invests some time into her own blog. If she had her way, every weekend would be a long weekend – Mari for president!

Mari has passed the GAIQ (Google Analytics Individual Qualification)
