Justin Victor Spratt brought spring early when he joined the Jozi QuirkStation on 31 August 2010. The Aussie (we try not to hold that against him) grew up idolising none other than Bill Gates and dreamed of becoming a Wall Street trader. After finishing up school at St. Augustine’s School he spent 5 years in the UK before finally settling down in South Africa. He then got stuck in at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where he completed a BCom in Economics and Finance, with Honours in Finance and then went on to an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Before joining Quirk, Justin was GM of 3 portfolios at Service Provider, Internet Solutions, which entailed working on Mobile Solutions as well as managing www.islabs.co.za. Why online? Justin literally grew up around computers – his Mother was a Microsoft trainer and his Dad sold IBMs (now we see where the Bill Gates fascination comes from). He can’t live without The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and his ultimate RSS feed, good ole’ Twitter. Justin’s friends describe him as passionate and untiring; he also has a knack of reading people within a short space of time, which proves to be very helpful in negotiations. Nicknamed “Spratty”, he says he can teach us Stars a thing or two about the fine art of BBQing and an appreciation for sheep (typical!).
He’d spend his ideal day off biking and having a big chow with mates – possibly involving his one true guilty pleasure, guacamole and Doritos. He’d then spend the rest of the day reading and writing. He adores his Jack Russell, Elvis, watching Arrested Development and using his brain - but he hates dishonesty. Given the chance, Justin would overhaul the education system and make creativity and problem solving the centre point of every discipline. It’s clear that Spratty loves what he does and he does it WELL, which is why we’re super excited about his QuirkStar status.
