Junior Developer & Green Music Maker
Ian Collins Thurston Summs (try saying that 3 times really fast) joined us full-time at the Cape Town QuirkStation after a brief work shadow in September 2010, adding to our team of techies as a rocking Junior Developer.
Although he grew up wanting to be a sportsman, Ian soon realised he could use his dexterity in other ways and headed off to UCT to complete his BA. He then went on complete a part-time course in music composition at City Varsity, a WSL Entry Level Programming course and, more recently, a course at Concept Interactive in HTML & CSS. Why this direction? Ian says he chose this route because of his passion for everything from the English language and music to technology and art! (Sheesh, yet another multi-faceted Star.) Before he became a tech junkie, Ian lived out his love for music - running an independent record label and producing and composing dance music for 12 years. This guy’s full of creativity and has a drive to learn new skills in a fast paced industry.
Ian treasures the outdoors, the colour green and like Aretha Franklin, has a whole lotta R.E.S.P.E.C.T for the planet. He says his most prized possessions are his wife and twin kiddies (awww) and his ideal day would be spent with them on the beach, relaxing and eating delicious snacks. We think he’s a keeper!
