Gerard du Plessis was welcomed in the team of crazy Cape Town QuirkStars when he joined us as a Senior Planner in January 2012. While he might have started off wanting to be a teacher, Gerard ditched the classroom in Standard 8 to follow in the wake of childhood hero and ultimate dude, Kelly Slater.
Luckily for us, he got his nose back into the books and graduated from Red & Yellow with a Postgraduate Diploma. Managing to occasionally tear himself away from the sea, Gerard chose to surf online because “it’s the logical next step in the evolution of communication and the only platform where brands can truly engage in dialogue with consumers.” ‘Nuff said.
If the surf’s flat and he’s not cooking up a storm or hiking up a mountain, G-Rad spends his time on PinchMySalt, BrainPickings, FFFFOUND! and The 99 Percent. In between all of that, he also manages to spend some time with his best four-legged friend: Lochland ‘Phutu’ Steele. Forever curious and still a kid at heart, Gerard reckons that cleaning his room is by far the worst job he’s ever had.
