Gavin started out wanting to conquer the left-hand side of his brain during his Bachelor of Science studies which were followed by a year long spate of quantity surveying. He hated it and found himself in dire need of an epiphany. Seeing these are hard to come by, he left house and home and moved into a tent in Knysna.
Inspiration came in a snapshot as he embraced the more creative pursuit of portrait photography. But in his little heart he knew he was destined to be a Web Designer! So he went about reading a number of books and taking a course. And (obviously) he thought he was #@!* hot - until he spent a year resizing images at a travel company where it was customary to be paid in cash behind the boss's desk.
It was then that he decided it was time to get a real Web Design job and he graduated to The Forge Web Designs where he worked for two years before joining the DesignStars at Quirk. His great eye for composition and analytical thought process make him a real asset!
As one of our dynamic designers, Gavin is known for his meticulous style and out-of-the-box ideas. When it came to designing and building the new Keedo site, he once again did not disappoint. Through creative thinking and insane attention to detail, Gavin gave this kid’s clothing and accessories brand an online presence that even we didn’t expect. All Gavin’s hard work paid off when the Keedo site was nominated as one of the Best Clothing and Accessories store sites for 2008 by the South African e-Commerce awards.
Gavin is a well-travelled chap who has washed dishes and cleaned toilets in the US and has explored the UK, Australia, Indonesia and Eastern Europe. He's now a proud dad of two who maintains balance by swimming after his chocolate binges. He is the proud founder of the Quirk swim team, who meet daily at the Woodstock pool to frolic with Speedo wearing geriatrics.
